Short Bio

Wudan Yan is an award-winning narrative journalist, fact-checker, and entrepreneur based in Seattle, Washington. Her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, California Sunday Magazine, High Country News, MIT Technology Review, The New York Times, Popular Mechanics and beyond. She is a multi-grantee of the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and has also received grants from UC Berkeley, the Institute of Journalism and Natural Resources, and the International Womens Media Foundation to support her work. Wudan is also the founder and executive producer of The Writers’ Co-op: a business podcast and learning academy for freelance creatives.

Her writing has appeared in The Atlantic, California Sunday Magazine, High Country News, MIT Technology Review, The New York Times, Popular Mechanics and beyond. She is a multi-grantee of the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting and has also received grants from UC Berkeley, the Institute of Journalism and Natural Resources, and the International Women’s Media Foundation to support her work.

Wudan regularly supports podcast production networks and nonfiction authors in ensuring the work they publish is fully accurate. She’s worked on the award-winning seasons of This Land, Damages, Unsealed: The Tylenol Murders, and David Quammen’s Breathless, which was listed as a finalist for the National Book Award in 2022.

In 2020, Wudan founded The Writers’ Co-op: an anti-hustle business podcast, learning community, and membership program for freelance creatives. She regularly speaks about the business of freelancing and how to best negotiate and advocate for yourself, and coaches other freelancers on creating sustainable businesses.

Prior to journalism, Wudan was pursing a doctoral degree in cancer biology.
